The applications of Yucca schidigera extract in poultry
Yucca schidigera is a herbaceous plant that grows naturally in the deserts of northwestern Mexico and southwestern America. The Yucca schidigera extract contains rich saponins, polysaccharides and polyphenols. Saponins have the properties of surfactants, which can reduce cell surface tension, stimulate immune cell reaction and promote the generation of antibodies to improve animal immunity. Polysaccharides have a very strong affinity with ammonia, which can combine with ammonia to inhibit the harm of ammonia and convert ammonia into harmless nitrous compounds for use by the body, thus maintaining the acid-base balance of the intestinal tract, promoting the stability of intestinal flora and digestive enzymes. Yucanpolyphenol has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Its antioxidant effects are mainly manifested in that it can eliminate reactive oxygen species, prevent the peroxidation of lipids, and integrate metal ions. At the same time, it can activate the intracellular antioxidant defense system to avoid damage of body cells and various tissues. Yucca schidigera also contains resveratrol, an antioxidant. It can also prolong the action time of other antioxidants in the body (such as vitamins E and C). The anti-inflammatory effect of polyphenols is mainly manifested in the inhibition of the expression of inflammatory factors iNOS and the inhibition of platelet agglutination.
Yucca saponins, the main steroidal chemical constituents, are mainly responsible for its antimicrobial, anti-parastic and anticarcinogenic effects. Yucca schidigera extract has been used in traditional medicine by Native Americans. It has a variety of beneficial effects and is widely used in animal feed additives, including yucca powder and yucca syrup as a feed supplement for broilers and livestock production, including cattle, horses and pigs. They physically bind ammonia, reducing its levels in the environment and improving the air quality around birds. It also has antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, hypocholesterolemic and anti-parastic effects. In addition, it has also been used as a bio-stimulant for growth.
Among the many dietary supplements for poultry, Yucca schidigera extract has a positive effect on the performance of broiler chickens. The extract has been found to improve the overall efficiency of feed conversion, and reduce ammonia excretion and fecal odor in poultry houses. It also helps to reduce the number of E. coli bacteria in broilers. In addition to its beneficial effects on broilers, YSE has also been found to improve the animal welfare of livestock. Yucca schidigera has also been found to increase the lactic acid producing bacteria and to enhance the absorption of nitrogen. In addition, Yucca schidigera has also demonstrated its ability to improve the feed conversion ratio of broilers.
Antiprotozoal properties
Yucca schidigera also has antiprotozoal properties. It inhibits the development of protozoa and inhibits the growth of pathogenic bacteria in the intestine. Yucca schidigera has been found to reduce the number of bacteria, E. coli and sulfates in the environment. In addition, it has been found to inhibit NFkB activation. Yucca schidigera extract may be used in combination with coccidiosis vaccine to prevent disease development and enhance disease resistance in broilers. A recent study by Wang and Kim compared the effects of Yucca schidigera extract on E. coli counts and total bacterial counts in broiler chicks. They found that the extract had a linear inhibitory effect on the counts of E. coli and total bacteria. It also improved the overall feed conversion rate and average daily gain. In addition, it has a positive effect on the carcass characteristics of quails.
Enhancing immunity
Adding Yucca schidigera extract in diets can enhance the immunity of broilers, increase the daily gain of broilers and reduce the ratio of feed to gain. It can also significantly reduce the content of uric acid, urea nitrogen, ammonia and xanthine oxidase activity in serum, and increase the content of total protein and albumin. An experimental study on the effects of Yucca schidigera saponins on production and blood biochemical indices of broilers showed that supplementation of 60, 120 and 240 mg/kg yucca extract significantly increased final body weight, average daily gain, average daily feed intake, and significantly decreased blood urea nitrogen content and feed to gain ratio of broilers. However, the contents of triglyceride and total cholesterol in blood were not significantly affected and showed a decreasing trend with the increase of yucca extract supplemental level. The results showed that Yucca schidigera extract could effectively improve the growth performance and immune response of broilers, and the appropriate supplemental level was 100 mg/kg.
Reducing ammonia levels
Yucca schidigera extract has also been used as a feed supplement to control ammonia levels in poultry houses. It contains glycol-fraction with ammonia binding capabilities and saponins. These are antimicrobial agents that inhibit the development of pathogenic bacteria. They also have antioxidant and anticarcinogenic effects. In addition, YSE helps to reduce ammonia levels in the atmosphere. Yucca saponins t is widely used as a deodorant in livestock and poultry houses. It can significantly reduce the concentration of ammonia in chicken houses. An experimental study showed that the mean ammonia concentration in the hen house was significantly reduced by 9.05 mg/L when yucca extract was used at 250 mg/kg compared to the control group. It significantly reduced the content of NH3 and H2S in the coop.
